Vulcan is the Roman God of the forge and of fire. It is said that once a century one of his demigod children (half God half mortal) can also control fire, but that may just be a myth. Romans were so afraid of his fire that temple built for him were built outside of town for danger of fire. Most Romans feared Vulcan for his destructive power so he was associated with volcanoes. He also has a festival called the Volcanalina and it was celebrated on August 23rd.
Vulcan is son of Juno and Jupiter. He has always lived in his brother, Mars', shadow since Mars is the most worshipped of all of the Roman Gods or Goddesses because he was the God of war. His other half siblings were Minerva, twins Diana and Apollo, Venus, Mercury, and Bacchus. Jupiter gave Vulcan Venus to be his wife and Vulcan created Pandora to impress her. Some say that Vulcan was Juno's son by parthenogenesis (virgin birth) but most say he is indeed son of Jupiter and Juno.
Vulcan was the smith of the Gods and he made many of the Gods' most important possessions such as Pluto's invisible helmet and Neptune's Trident. Many say that the reason Vulcan has a limp is that Juno threw him off of Olympus because he was an ugly baby, but that may be just a myth.
