Hephaestus is the god of fire, metalworking, and craft. The myth says that once a century one of his demigod (half god half mortal) children can control fire also. Hephaestus is the smith of the gods and he has made many of the gods' items, such as The Helm of Hades. Animals that are sacred to Hephaestus are the donkey and the crane.
Aphrodite was given to Hephaestus by Zeus and they got married. Some say that Hephaestus was Hera's son by parthenogenesis (virgin birth) but most say he is indeed son of Zeus and Hera. His brother, Ares, doesn't really like him very much. His half siblings are Athena, Hermes, twins Apollo and Artemis, Aphrodite, and Dionysus.
Hephaestus was the smith of the Gods and he made many of the Gods' most important possessions such as Hades' invisible helmet and Poseidon's Trident. Many say that the reason Hephaestus has a limp is that Hera threw him off of Olympus because he was an ugly baby, but that may be just a myth.
