Ares is the god of war and bloodshed. Sometimes Ares caused trouble just so he could see blood and death. Ares was a very mean and self-centered god who loved killing people for fun. Animals that are sacred to Ares were vultures, venomous snakes, dogs, and wild boars. Like his mother, Ares was difficult to deal with and unliked by many.
Ares was son of Zeus and Hera and he had a brother, Hephaestus. His half siblings were twins Apollo and Artemis, Athena, Hermes, Aphrodite, and Dionysus. Even though Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, she was also married to Ares. Aphrodite and Ares had seven children who are all minor Gods and Goddesses. He also warred with Apollo and Artemis a lot, especially during the Trojan War.
Ares also had five spirit companions who he sent out to horrify mortals if he was mad, which he was most of the time. The leader of his spirits was Eris, the Goddess of disagreement. The other four were the spirits of Pain, Panic, Famine, and Oblivion. Ares' main symbol was also the spear and shield forged for him by his brother, Hephaestus.
