Roman Mythology
The Romans took on the Greek gods and goddesses around 300 B.C. and dropped all of their old gods and goddesses. When they used the Greek deities they simplified them and made them fit how the Romans acted (which was generally more brutal). Instead of having Jupiter (Zeus) be the main god, they made Mars (Ares) their most worshiped god because he was the god of war and he seemed to aid the Roman conquests more effectively.
